Example $ locate firefox | grep 'firefox$' By this, I mean that when I save a downloaded executable to any location on my hard drive, and the download shows as complete in the Download Manager, Firefox does show the 'Open File' confirmation dialog, but once I click 'OK', the download doesnt open.
However recently installed items may not show up there until the updatedb command has had a chance to index these newly added files to the filesystem. As the title says, I cant seem to open any executable files from the Download Manager. If firefox is not already on the PATH then interrogating the locate database using the locate command might be your only other option. You can use the command type to locate where an executable is coming from on the filesystem.
